[News] Fly Bikes - New Parts and Colours
   by Michael Hardman | 04 Jul 2006 8:51 am

I'm not the biggest fan of Fly Bikes but seeing as their pretty big in the BMX world I'll share with you some of the new parts to come out of the factory along with some new colours, which I must admit are rather cool and my sort of thing.  All I'll say is there very Autumny just click the link below to see the full range of products and the new colour coding.

New colors on parts

Here are the new colors on our parts.

The forks come in flat black, dirty green and dirty white.

Pantera bars in in flat black, dirty green and pearl red.

3amigos bars in flat black, flat dirty green and tan-grey.

Mosca bars in flat black, turquoise and pearl white.

Stem, Mosca stem, sprocket, barends and brake now in orange too.

Ruben grips

This is to tell you that the Ruben grips are already available. You can check the info on the last Ruben Grip new that we posted some time ago.

Here is a photo of the final colors. They come in black, dirty white, orange, green and brown. Hope you like them.

For those that are going to get some, please give it a try to the barends. They are not the typical barend that comes with the grips that you never use. These ones work great! Actually, most of us are using them.

To tell you the truth, we didn't think they were going to work that well but checking the result, we are going to sell them separately soon.

Cranks update

After receiving so many question about when the cranks will be available, I think we owe you to tell you the situation of them. On my last post about the cranks I said that they were going to be available on late March but sometimes things don't go so smooth so we had to wait a bit more to start production. The reason was a small wrong detail on the final prototypes that made us make a new mold. Making a new mold takes so much time...

Anyway, they should be ready to ship to the distributors on late July so they will be available on late August.

I'm really sorry about this.

Here is a photo of the final colors with the final bolt. They will come in flat black, dirty white and dirty green. The sizes will be 175mm. and 180mm.

New 3Amigos colors

Here are the new colors for the 3Amigos frames. Now we have 4 colors with the addition of Naran. Here they are:

Javier flat black
McGyver flat dirty green
Perico tan-grey
Naran light blue

I hope you like their choices.

Diablo 3 frame

Since we released the Diablo, about 4 years ago, we have tried to improve this frame keeping the original concept. A simple design frame. The Diablo Brandan Pundai refined was released 2 years ago with some refinements like brakes on the top and others. And now, here is the 3rd version. The Diablo 3.

When we started designing the Diablo 3, we thought about using thiner tubes on the downtube and chainstays so we can have a 4.6 or 4.7 pound frame. It was supposed to be a only trails frame as Brandan mainly rides. But thinking twice, we thought that limiting the possibilities of riding was not a good idea. So we kept the thickness of tubes to have an all around frame.

The refinements are the same as the Mosca 2 but here they are again:
- Integrated gusset
- Shorter seat tube
- Inside machined dropouts
- Smaller dropouts
- Removable chain tensioners
- New colors
- Smaller diameter on tubes. On this frame they go like this:

Top tube: 34 mm. / 1.3" (used to be 36 mm. / 1.4" )
Down tube: 38 mm. / 1.5" (used to be 40 mm. / 1.6")
Chainstays: 19 mm. / 0.75" (used to be 22 mm. / 0.85")

There new 4 colors are the Brandan grey, Luke light blue, Kevin Kalkoff brown and Guiri black.

The new weight is 2.405 grs. (5.3 lb.)

I hope you like it!

Mosca 2 frame

Here is the Mosca 2 frame. Here are the refinements we made for it. It comes with all the refinements on the new Pantera 2 (integrated gusset, machined dropouts, 2 chain tensioners, lower down tube, and bigger internal vent holes) plus these:

Many people asked us for a longer version so now you have it in 20.6" as well. So the sizes are 19.8", 20.2" and 20.6"

Smalller dropouts but still allow to use a 13.75" or 14.25" if you want.

As on the Pantera 2, the diameter of tubes are smaller.  But on this frame, they are a bit smaller than on the Pantera 2. We think it makes sense since this is a frame mainly for shorter riders. So here is how they are:
Top tube: 34 mm. / 1.3" (used to be 36 mm. / 1.4" )
Down tube: 38 mm. / 1.5" (used to be 40 mm. / 1.6")
Chainstays: 19 mm. / 1" (used to be 20.5 mm. / 0.8")

There are 4 new colors: Edu turquoise, David brown, Buddy orange and Dylan pearl white.

The new weight is 2.400 grs. (5.2 lb.)

I hope you like it!

Pantera 2 frame

Well, here we go. Here is the Pantera 2 frame. It seems like yesterday to me but it's being almost 3 years (August 2003) since we released the Pantera. Over that time we've improved it with the Spanish bb, Guiri tabs, new gusset and hidden headset but this is the first time we've actually redesigned it. Sergio has been riding the Pantera 2 for a year now and is happy to release you the details so we'll let him explain them:

It comes with all the improvements on the 3Amigos frame and some more. Here they are:

- Integrated gusset (reinforcement on downtube-headtube)
We think this is the stronger solution for this spot so we used it and it goes great. It uses the the asimetric tube thickness with 2mm. on the bottom and 1.2mm. on the top.
- Smaller diameter on tubes
With the strenght of the integrated gusset, we thought we could use slighty smaller diameter tubes. I kept the same thickness though. I don't like thin tubes on the downtube and chainstays. Using thin tubes there, we'll save about 350 grs. (0.8 lb.). but I seriously don't think is worth to save that small weight and have a frame that may crack, dent or bend, really. Here are all the tubes diameter and thicness:

Top tube: 36 mm. / 1.4" (used to be 38 mm. / 1.5" )
Down tube: 40 mm. / 1.55" (used to be 41 mm. / 1.6")
Seatstays: 19 mm. / 0.75" (used to be 20.5 mm. / 0.8" )
Chainstays: 20.5 mm. / 1" (used to be 22 mm. / 0.9")

- Internally machined dropouts
They look nicer in my opinion and save a bit of weight.

- 2 removable chain tensioners
People asked for 2 instead of 1 so we included one more. It's good for those that want to use two or simply to have one extra just in case.

- Dropouts are 2mm. bigger on the bottom
Sticking a bit from the peg makes the rail or whatever to not slide and touch the hub so I think it is better now.

- Integrated seat clamp
I liked the fact of having less parts on the bike so having the seat clamp integrated was perfect for me. I liked it to look like you actually have a seat clamp but really small so here it is.

- Lower downtube (when it meets the seat post)
It was low already on the Pantera but I thought that a bit more will be nicer. It's 13 mm. (1/2 ") lower now.

- Bigger internal vent holes
Now it has even bigger vent holes to save some weight.

- New colors
There are 4 colors with the new choices of Kevin (lile), Stevan (pearl red) Tony (mustard) and me (dirty green).

The new weight is 2.505 grs. (5.5 lb.). Take note that it includes seat clamp which is 25grs. (0.05lb) so it's actually 2.480gr. (5.45 lb.)

I hope you like it!

Hope you like them!
