[Review]Kink Relief Stem
   by FEEL MEEEE | 14 Jan 2009 4:38 pm

Kink Relief Stem
Made from 7075 aluminum with a tongue and groove sliding wedge that applies clamping force to the steerer tube as you tighten the handle bar clamp. Rounded back side and chamfered edges make the stem knee friendly while hollow bolts help save weight

Well i had this stem for about 6.5 months and the stem itself held up fine, surprisingly strong for such little material. To start off, getting it on is a pain because you have to arrange the alignment of the bars and your fork at the same time because of the groove system it uses. Because of the groove/wedge system it takes away a good amount of surface area in the clamping areas. This can be a bad thing because over time it WILL ovalize your steerer tube. I run Odyssey Race forks and it didnt ruin them but it was obvious where they are pinched. Overall the stem isnt great but it wont just break on you, i am not that smooth of a rider and have taken some decent sized drops and it didnt break

Pros
Light for the weanies
looks like something from the future
it was cheap at 40 bucks

Cons
Pain in the ass to put on/maintain
Pinches your steerer tube over time
takes forever to get the bars off/on.

Rating-6.5/10
