[Review] HOFFMAN Condor EL1
   by blkmk3jettakid | 02 Dec 2005 9:33 am

I recently purchased the new 2006 Hoffman Condor EL1 from a local bike shop.
I was in need of a new bike as my old one completely shit the bed so, I started looking into what was new.  The Hoffman seemed to have almost all of the features I was looking for in the price range that best suited my budget.

I ended up getting the bike for $230 which seemed very reasonable for a bike that had cro-moly main tubes on the frame and a 100% cro-moly fork.  It also has a 3pc. crank, seemed great!  I took the bike to the park today for the first time and it seemed solid and well tuned.

The only downside was that the sealed bearing on the rear wheel blew up within 45 minutes of riding!  I was shocked to see a sealed bearing go that quickly so, I went to the bike shop to see what they could do.  The guys at the shop were great, they said they have never seen anything like that happen on a new bike before so, they replaced the wheel for free.
I went back to the park anxious to ride some more and again, within 45 minutes, the rear bearing was cooked again!!!  All and all, this was a great bike for the money I spent on it but, the rear wheel bearings suck bigtime!  Tomorrow I will have to go back to the shop and see what can be done to get the bike on its wheels again.

Costs: around $230 USD
