[Review] MAXXIS Maxx Daddy Tyre
   by Michael Hardman | 02 Mar 2006 12:27 pm

Specs

  • Bi-directional knobbly design - ideal for Dirt and Street.
  • 40 psi
  • Sizes: 20" x 1.85" and 2.0” and 2.25"
  • 450 grams
  • £5-10

I've used the 1.85" and the 2.25" version of these tyres and they are worlds apart.  It depends what your style is and how much pain you can put u with.  The 1.85" version rolls very well but it hurts if you land front wheel by mistake, the 2.25" version on the other hand rolls really badly but it soaks up every bad impact, not to mention it looks a bit out of place on he bike.  All the versions of this tyre seem to grip well but obviously the bigger ones grip better but at a price.  They all last a long time, roughly 4 moths in my case.  The have the perfect tread for slamming your foot into when doing your front wheel moves, which is something I really want in a front tyre. If you were going to get one of these tyres I would have to suggest you get the 2.0" version to get the best of both worlds but if you really want low rolling resistance or lots of grip then get one of the others.

Summary

  • Light
  • Grippy (for slamming your foot in)
  • Long lasting
  • Soft sticky compound
  • Super Cheap
  • Thin sidewalls suffer from punctures
  • Absorb impacts well (2.25" version others hurt wrists a bit)
  • To much rolling resistance (2.25" version, others are fine)

Rating

8/10 - because the are very light tyres and therefore have very skinny sidewalls, which are prone to punctures and he 1.85"and 2.0" versions don’t absorb the impacts of street as well as the 2.25" version.

Costs: about $13 USD
