[News] Fly Fork
   by Michael Hardman | 25 Aug 2006 1:55 pm

Product News: Fly Bikes

First of all, my apologies for not posting this before. Sorry for all of you that have been waiting for this update for months. The main reason was because the fork won't be out until late January. It sucks but we can't do anything about that. The reason for this huge production time is for the production of the internal oval shape of steer tube that I'm about to comment. So now the forks are being tested and approved but we have to wait now for the steer tubes.
On the last update I said that we were going to post one detail each month but it's being almost 4 months since then. So here are 4 details.

1. Internal oval shape steer tube

If a steer tube bends, it will more likely do it forward or backwards which is the direction of the fork when you land. So we made a tube that concentrates more material on the spots that stand that stress. So you have thick 3.2 mm. wall on the sides that make really difficult to bend and a thinner 1.7 mm. wall on the sides to save weight.

2. Triangle detail and squared triangle on bottom of steer tube

Long time ago we designed the rounded shape for the steer but it's on most of the forks now so we wanted something different. So we made this squared shape that matches with the 3amigos frame plates.

Also, we put this triangle to match the one on our dropouts.

3. Star top bolt<

We wanted something nice and different for the top bolt so we made this star design. I think it looks nice. It has a deep allen hex and it's internally machined to weight almost nothing.

The thread inside is made in a way that you see a clean tube if you ride without that bolt

4. triple butted legs

We added another thickness on the dropouts to stand the dropouts stress. So now the legs have a 1.4 mm. thickness on the bends, 1.1 mm. on the straight part and 1.2 mm. on the dropouts area.

I'll tell you the last detail, final weight and price in 1 month.
