The 411 Which bike to get? 2007 EDITION

For quite sometime now people have been posting, which bike to get? Here is a quick guide to beginners bikes. Someone needs to sticky this for all the new members because im going to put alot of time into this!

First off let me explain this, you want a bike that will last and be good to your budget. In doing this, you should look for a full crhomoly frame and fork, Chromoly is a type of steel that is very strong, yet light wirght and cheaper than say titanium.Three piece cranks is almost a "must" nowadays. A 3 piece crank consists of two crank arms and a spindle. Sealed hubs are always a plus, but not an absolute nececity for your bike. Sealed hubs pretty much make your wheel last longer. It has bearings that look much like that of a skateboard. They also come in sealed bottom brackets and head sets. There are four differnt kinds of bottom brackets. There is american, european, mid, and spanish. You can research those on your own time. Wheels also come in different types. Most commonly seen is the 48H. Meaning 48 holes in the rim for 48 spokes pretty much. 48H in return is stronger than the 36H of other wheels in my opinion, some people will argue. Axles for your wheels also come in different sizes, either 3/8" or 14mm. 3/8" is usually used for racing and 14mm for dirt, street, park, or whatever. I have had both and bent the 3/8" in no time, try not to get them! Gearing, is a somewhat complicated thing sometimes. Freewheels can only go as low as 13 teeth on them. But cassetre hubs can go as low as 9 teeth on them. You can expand on that later. The weight of your bike does not matter. Alot of people will also argue on this. My bike is 29 or so lbs. Anywhere from 28lbs to 36lbs is usually normal for a stock biike. Bikes have a couple of methods of braking. One is the gyro, letting you be able to spin your handle bars around as many times as you like, straight cable is just how it sounds, and the "brakeless" riding that seems to becoming popular. One last thing, the dimensions of a bike. Bikes come in different sizes, mostly 20". Many bikes will say 20.5TT or 21 TT. TT means top tube.
Thats all you pretty much need to know for starters on bikes. Here are the top notch of the beginner bikes that are under $400 and all have full chromoly frames and forks.

DK Six Pack

The DK sixpack comes in a stylish light blue or gray. Ask anyone about the six pack, they will say nothing but good things. It has a 20.5" TT. It is one of the best beginner bikes. It has everything you need. A 3 piece crank, full chromoly frame and fork. Sealed bottom bracket and has dk macho hubs. Laced to 48H wheels with sun rims.
MSRP: $309.99

DK Cleveland

Comes in a chocolate or citrus, right on! Same TT length as the six pack. The Clevelande closely related to the six pack but more for street. They have around the same accessories give or take a few. Same gearing ratio also. Just an added gyro for those lovely bar spins.
MSRP: $329.99

Fit Team Bike

*Note: Not the same bike, this is a new, higher end FIT complete.
Awesome bike that somes in colors of black, khaki, or silver. The team bike has a 20.5" TT. It of coure has a mid press fit bottom bracket, and an intergrated headset. The only draw back, 36H rims with 14mm axles.
MSRP: $349.99 No Longer Made in 2007 editions

Eastern Element

Ahhhh, one of my favorites. The element has a 20.75" TT and comes in two colors, black/white or all white. Comes with a sealed spanish bottom bracket, an internal headset, 48H wheels and a nifty 25/9 gearing ratio due to cassete hub and a nioce medusa sprocket. An ultimate buy if your budget allows you. The price jumped $30 since 2006, making it over $400 but i think it should stay, considering they changed alot for that amount of money. Also Grim Reaper style seat tube to get ride of some unwanted weight without sacrificing strength. A great BUY!
MSRP: $409.99

Eastern Sequence

Exactly like the element, the sequence has a TT length of 20,5" unlike the the element. It also has comes with 2 pairs of pegs instead of 1 pair. The sequence is the street clone of the element you could say. It also has front brakes. Comes in Black/Red or just Black.
MSRP: $419.99?

Hoffman Rythm IL1

The rythm is unkown to many people. I have no personal experience with it but i have heard nothing but great things about them from friends. A little differnt from other bikes, it has a spanish bottom bracket, 21" TT, and a set of 36H wheels. Comes with 33/12 gearing and uses a cassete hub. Colors of black, punky green, or punky peach.
MSRP: $399.99

Stolen The Heist

Very decent and good looking bike for the price. "S" gussets and micro dropouts. It has a heat-treated headset and sealed euro bottom bracket. It has 36H front and 48H rear laced with alex rims. The TT length is 20.75" and uses straight cable braking. Gearing ratio is 30/11 and uses a cassette decked out with one of stolens own sprocket. This bike is great, comes stock with one of the industrys best chain, and many aftermarket parts you would have to buy! Comes in Dark Red.
MSRP: $399.99

Stolen Wrap

Stolen seems to be an upcoming epidemic. It continues to pump out some kicka** bikes! This one with a sealed Euro BB. Sealed alloy hubs with 36H front, 48H rear wheels, both with 14mm axles. Comes with that same great chain i mensioned earlier, KMC-510, and a few other aftermarket goodies. Comes in Pale Blue.
MSRP: $319.99

2 Hip Soul

This would not be one of my first bikes just because i do not know anyone who has had one and no one that has ever even ridden one. Equppied with a euro bottom bracket and 36/13 gearing using no cassette. Has 48H wheels with alex rims. Looks pretty decent, not much info on them though. Comes in colors of blue, olive, or pink, ohh my!
MSRP: $299.99 No 2007 models yet, price drop, usually $369.99

Integral Slauson

There has been a lot of talk about the integral line of bikes lately. And its all TRUE! They are great bikes. This one comes with great after-market parts, like primo. It has 20.5"TT and a 36/13 gearing ratio with no cassette. Has 36H unsealed wheels with 14mm drop outs. Uses a stragiht cable instead of gyro. Also has Primo Powerbite cranks/ Spanish BB stock. Made in Orang/Yellow or Light Blue/Blue
MSRP: $344.99

Integral Expo

Another great bike. Same features as the slauson except for hollow axles, 36H Alex MX 22 Rims, Spanish BB with some Powerbite cranks. Primo Super Tenderizer pedals also. Not much to say but definetly a bike to look at, for say $40 more, you get better pedals, rims, hollow axles, and a better headset. Comes in Brown and Red.
MSRP: $379.99

Felt Fuse

Felt bikes are comeing back into focus, so to speak. Im sure everyone caught Scotty Cramner bringing home the gold. They have some wikid bikes out, decked out with some nice compents. This bike comes with Alex “DM24” double-wall Aluminum Rims. A very popular gear ratio of 33-12 making it a cassette hub. Comes in Acid Plumb a 20.5"TT.
MSRP: Still searching, if someone finds it, let me know.

Poverty G-Ride

The frame might now look as good as you like but it has big gussets, wishbone chainstay and 100% chromOly meening good strength and a 20.75 toptube which is pretty average from guys from 5.5 to 6 ft.
It has very strong wheels the poverty hubs are decent my poverty cassette anyway has lasted over a year so far and there very underrated sometimes and there sealed bearings so no regreasing and rims are alex tripple wall and 48h.. Note: One more wall then the odyssey hazzard lite and alex makes odyssey rims = rims on this bike stronger then odyssey's. Sealed tubular 3-piece pow cranks with a sealed bb cant ask for more then that. Diatech Hombre rear brake which alot of people use now days because there cheap and if tuned right they will work as good as odyssey evolvers. Comfy poverty seat looks great for gripping on barspins and the gyro. Full Chromoly bars/fork are lightish and strong.
14mm axles good for grinds..
MSRP: $349.99
I recommend this bike seems no one has it and from my outlook it has to be one the best bikes for the money coming in at only $349.
-Also comes in black.
-And first things I would change on it would be - Gyro and stem then later forks and bars and you have a great bike.
I have seen a video of guys doing backflips and tailwhips on this bike.
