[Review] Sun Rhynolite Rim (36h)
   by turndown | 15 Apr 2007 2:23 pm

I got this rim laced to a Odyssey Hazard front hub for 40 bucks from a kid, but the spokes had a crappy paintjob. Whatever, I painted the spokes black and put it on my bike. The rim had a few missing spokes, but I just kept riding it and didnt worry about it too much.

However one day, my wheel started creaking when I would do nose manuals. I determined it was because my spokes were loose so I got it off my bike and was looking at my rim. There was a flatspot right at where the seam is, due to a missing spoke. I found some old spokes on a ghetto wheel, hammered the flatspot out, and put a new spoke in and tightened the spokes up. I have broken a few spokes since, but I just keep putting old ghetto ones in and keeping them tight, and I havent had a single problem.

This rim I believe is intended for race use, as it is super light weight, low side walls, and only a double wall. However as my front rim, Ive put it through hell and say its very very strong. I have landed on it sideways, have done sideways-front-tire skids and numerous big drops/bails and the rim has held up alot better than I would have expected. Im not a hack, but after some of the shit I put it through I would have thought the rim would be destroyed.

Specs: Comes in chrome or black. (I could not find a weight). 36h only.

Rating: I give this rim a 9/10 because the flat spot on the seam, but this rim is still doing alot better than I thought it would.

Cost: about 43 USD
