[Review] Coalition Povah Stem
   by turndown | 16 Apr 2007 1:12 pm

I got this stem in November of 05 (Ive been running it for about 5 months) from a kid who installed it, but didnt run it as he decided to sell his bike. It was basically new when I got it, except for two bolts were stripped because it was apparent he tried to use a 6mm allen, and these are American bolts because Coalition is an American company. Nevertheless, one of the great things about that is all hardware stores have these bolts in stock for about 30 cents. So if you had all rusty bolts, you could replace them all for less than 2 bucks.

I never had any problems with this stem slipping or moving on me. I sometimes chuck my bike or leapfrog bail (hop over bars) on nose manuals if I lean too far forward and my bike will go mach 10 into the ground with my bars and they wont budge. My bars dont have the best knurling left either. I thought that the two single pieces on the front were easier to install than a full plate with 4 bolts to try and hold. As a matter of fact, I was suprised how well these small plates hold. I once forgot to tighten one side all the way, went riding, and realized when I got home that one side wasnt completely tightened and it didnt budge or anything.

Specs: 10.6 oz, available in 3 colors, dual clamping system instead of 1 faceplate, 52mm reach.

Pros: Light, Dual clamping design, looks good

Cons: American size bolts, but that depends on where you live on whether that is a con. I wouldnt consider it one, but the UK kids might.

Rating: 10/10, this stem is great!

Cost: about 63 USD
