I was messing around with my seat’s guts today and thought of a way to make a ghetto pivotal seat. Some people may think that this is a really stupid idea, but I will write a how-to on what I did. First of all, just to warn you…your seat will be pretty flexable if you do this mod. Also you probably won't be able to re-convert it back to normal. Anyways...

Materials: Seat, Seatpost, Hacksaw, allen keys, a staple gun, a flathead screwdriver.

Step 1:
Get an ordinary seat [the kind with rails]

2: Now you will need your hacksaw.
Cut along the red lines shown here with teh hacksaw, so that you can remove the rails form your seat.


3. Now once you have cut along those lines you will need to pop the front part of the rails out of where you just cut, then pull the rails out of the back of the seat so they are removed.

4. Now you have your rails removed, you can get started.
4.5. you now are going to need these parts of the seatpost.


5. Place the seatpost itself on the seat [in the middle]

6. Now mark where the holes in the seatpost line up on the seat.
6.5. Now strip the cover off of your seat.

7. Drill out holes that are slightly larger than the bolts in the seat and through the foam where you marked.

8. your seat should now look like this.

except with no cover.

9. now you are going to need nuts to match with your bolts.

10. place the nuts on the top of the seat where you drilled the holes. glue them down. this is really key if you want it to work easily.

11. now you can recover the seat. By placing the cover back on and stapling it underneath. [ i didn't staple mine because i ran out of staples]

12. now you have your holes drilled and bolts installed, you will need to put this piece centered between the holes.


13. now you want to put the post over top of the little piece like this.


14. once that is done. you need to make sure the post's holes are aligned with the ones in the seat. now you can put the bolts in loosley.

15. now adjust the seat to the position you like, and tighten the bolts.

note: with my seat. the back of the post was touching the seat, and i added washers to the front bolt.

16. now you can install the seat on your bike.
and it will look like this. [my seat is a shadow slim sltripped and then thin padded]




now many people will say this sucks and is a bad idea for [who know's what] reasons.
but it worked for me and if you follow my instructions carefully it should all work out.
