[How-To] Dismantle, Adjust and Reasemble your Fede
   by Utter_Nutter | 25 Oct 2007 8:54 pm

Okay, this guide is for beginner coaster riders like myself, in this guide i'll show you how to adjust the slack in your federal freecoaster.

Heres what you need:

1. Freecoaster
2. Adjustable Spanner (Wrench for you yanks)
3. Allen Keys (6mm)
4. Instructions (Although, if you're reading this you've either lost your instuctions or didn't get any!)
5. Grease

Ok, lets begin.

First, remove any bolts and washers, then insert your 6mm allen key into the Axle, then adjust your spanner to fit on the cone nut. (shown below)

Turn Anti-Clockwise and remove the cone nut and the washer behind it.

Take the driver out by pulling it out and turning Anti-Clockwise at the same time. (It can be a bit stiff)
Once you have the driver out, its time to get the axle out! The insructions say you should use a rubber malet, but i used a peice of wood, either way works the same.

This is what should come out.

It's grease, i swear it is!

So, do the same thing on the other side, remove the cone nut and so on the bearing will just slide off, theres no need to force it

in the end, this is what you should have

So, now that it's dismantled we can adjust it!

If you look here, there are 3 washers on the right side of the bearing (2 normal and top hat washer)

The top hat washer MUST ALWAYS be in, you musn't remove it, the other 2 however you can remove.

With the coaster you get 3 plain washers (2 inside and one in a little plastic bag)

Three washers is the MINIMAL gap

Zero washers is the MAXIMAL gap (Remember to keep that top hat washer in!)

And obviously the in betweens are the in betweens.

When your happy with the gap you have put it all together(Follow the instructions backwards), ride it and if you don't like it you can always come back to this guide!
