HowTo- Hop to Wallride [S][P?]
   by PhoenixBMX | 19 Dec 2007 1:44 pm

I have no idea how to do them from a quarterpipe onto a wall, because there isn’t anything like that around here. So if someone can give pointers for those that would be great.

You should do them on the side that feels best; I think I can do them on both sides. If you table to the right try wallriding so your lefthand side is facing the wall, it will make it easier to push the bike over and will make your tyres stick well.
ok. wallrides are one of my favourite tricks, because you can leave black marks on any wall you want, almost, and because they look and feel good.
If you're just starting to try wallrides I STRONGLY recommend that you don't try to wallride something vertical straight away. Get a piece of ply and lean it against something solid then try wallriding that. I learnt them like this:

Picture from about 8 or 9 months ago, give or take.

Then adjust the angle of your piece(s) of plywood, making it closer and closer to vert until it wont stay propped up against the wall anymore and falls over when you hit it. Then take it to a wall somewhere that’s not mad rough(so you wont rip your arm to shreds if your tyres slide off) but sticks to your tyres well.
Also, get into the habit of hopping onto your piece of ply and leaning, kinda like a table, towards the wall so your tyres stick better. If you get a bad habit of just popping your front tyre and riding onto the piece of wood it will make things super harder later on. (this is what I did)
Your front wheel should be well above your back, at least in the beginning. If they are the same height it will look good but if your tyres lose grip you will probably slide down the wall, grating your shoulder and hand on the way. Once you get good at them you can work on having your tyres the same height.
Do it on whichever side feels best, ideally it would be the side away from your pegs but they are do-able with pegs on no problem.
This is from the first day I learnt them. Haven’t had a chance to try them since then but I cant wait to try and do some bigger ones. You can get some mad height on them if you have a good hop.

The angle you hit at should be about 10 o clock or 3 o clock (if straight at the wall is 12o clock)
If you go faster your tyres will stick better but if you hit the wall sketchily you will get hurt, so build up slowly.
have fun.
If you have a bank to wall near you, you can probably skip most of the steps, and I am jealous of you.
If anyone has other advice then let me know

Edit: as you start to get better at them and want to go higher, you need to hop further away from the wall. This is the secret to high ones, I remember a vid of cranmer(I think) doing a hop wallride to whip out and he got 4-5 feet up the wall just by hopping.
