[Review] Profile race cranks.
   by Sean13 | 21 Feb 2008 2:17 am

I have now had these cranks for 2 years and they have remained basically unchanged for 25 years previous to that, released in 1983, these cranks gave riders trust in being able to land a little further than anticipated, and not to bend or snap the arms, like previous cranks from different companies. These really did set the bench mark in design and quality, and even through till today other manufactures are releasing cranks based on the design of the original profiles, examples being We The People, DK and Demolition just to name a few. Why? Because the design is almost faultless, a 48-spline axle, no pinch bolts to worry about keeping tight, immensely strong, and only 2 bolts to worry about to keep them tight.

Pros:
Lifetime guarantee on the axle and arms
Handmade in the USA from 4130 chromoly
All replaceable parts are available, from either the dealer, or Profile directly
Simple and proven design, minimises maintenance
Titanium axles, bolts, etc are all available
Available in a huge amount of sizes, colours and bottom brackets

Cons:
Price, considered to be quite expensive
Arms can sometimes jam on axle, if an anti seize compound is not used
Bolts are in; imperial (US size) which are sometimes hard to get hold of in England and other countries that use Metric.

Overall: 9/10, had these 2 years now and have not had a fault with them, only reason i did not give these a 10 is because some people believe they are over priced, but i feel you pay for quality and don't mind paying the extra bit if I know I’m not going to have to replace parts in a few months time.

I hope this helps you.
