[Review] KHE Reverse Freecoaster
   by airfalcon | 03 Mar 2008 10:04 pm

Hey guys , i have decided to review this hub after 7-8 months of riding.
I know jakallen1990 has made a review of this freecoaster a month ago which you can find here : http://www.bmx-forum.com/showthread....ht=KHE+reverse

Im sure most of you have heard of this freecoaster and heard alot about how bad it is but from my experience its not been as bad as people say.

Well i got the freecoaster in June and when it arrived the first thing i TRIED to do is change the gap. I took apart the driver and noticed how small the bearings were in it. I was kinda nervous about them but still i was willing to try it out. I got the the bit where you have to hit the axle with a rubber mallet. I could have hit it all day but it wasnt budging! i decided to leave it and went out riding. I emailed KHE about this and waited for the relpy.
At first the gap hit me. I never thought i would get used to it , it just felt weird. People were hitting their knees off my stem all over the place! I got used to the gap in about a week or two. I dont even notice it 7 months later , to me cassettes feel weird.
After a while KHE replied about the email. They said that the bearings probably hadnt been broken in and i should put an allen key in the axle and move it around for a bit so the bearings spin... This didnt work at all.
After numerous emails they basicly said there is nothing they can do.
The freecoaster itself works great! My hub rarely engages when going backwards and its pretty smooth.

I have tried to hit the axle out about 5 times over the 7 months to grease my hub and maintain it but it still aint budging. Due to this problem i cant grease the inside of my hub. I can grease the driver and stuff but not the clutch or anything inside.

well here it is..

Pros:
Its a freecoaster...
LHD and RHD
9t driver
doesnt use the stud axle system which i HEARD didnt work well for pegs.
changable slack (not for me)

Cons:
bearings on driver are very small
No high gearings
requires maintanence (although still works for me)
some people hate the gap but its not as bad as people think
Heavy (althought trying to make a freecoaster lite is a bad idea)

Although my big problem with my hub it still works and thats all that really matters. Its strong and quite smooth. I like it , some hate it but it works for me.

I rate it 8/10.
