24 Sep 2008 1:39 pm, [How To] lower bearing cover

Recently I got some new odyssey race forks with the internal heaset race.
the problem I had was that the lower headset bearing was left uncovered open to the elements. I know sealed bearings are quite though and grit resistant but with the front wheel flicking up all kinds of stuff I thought id cover it to be safe.
What you will need: go to you local hardware store (I used B&Q) and get a tap washer and assorted rubber o-rings this should only be about £2
this is how my lower headset bearing looked like originally

17 Sep 2008 1:55 pm, [Guide] How to replace a sprocket

This is for a 2 piece crank but the same concept applies to most other types.

Step 1: Get an allen wrench (or in my case a 9/16 socket) and take out the bolt in the opposite side the crank is on.

Step 2: Pull off the crank

Step 3: Get a big wrench or large vise-grips and take off the nut, it will have a cicular one that just slides off behind it as well.

Step 4: Use a flat-head screw-driver and a hammer while looking down the bike while it is on the seat and bars (AKA, upside down) and put the tip of the driver in the slit on the right side of the circular nut and hold the other crank in between your legs and hammer down and un-screw that bolt.

Step 5: You now have you bearing seal in one hand and the bearings probably in the frame, take them out and pull the other side of the crank out and take the bearings out of that side too so they don't get dirt in em and put em aside.(note the large amounts of grease, if you can clean off all parts the bearings touch including the bearings themselves and apply fresh grease when you reasselmble)

Step 6: Unbolt the nuts and bearing seal and slide off the sprocket.

Step 7: Take the new sprocket and slide it on, making sure that when you tighten the nuts back on that the little knob that sticks out on the crank goes in the little whole on the sprcoket.(make sure that you put nuts and seal back on in the same exact order as when they came off. I usually lay them out in order af assembly on a table to help)

Step 8: Bolt back on the nuts in order on the crankless side and slide on the crank bolting that back on as well making sure that the crank es parallel to the other side.

Step 9( if needed):
Most of the time when you change your sprocket size you'll need to shorten/lengthen your chain. To do so get a chain breaker(and a masterlink if one isn't already on) and some spare chain. Put the chain that is already on the bike on like your getting ready to put it back together. If you can't get it back on thatn you need to lengthen the chain, if its too loose than you need to shorten it.

Lengthening: Put the chain-breaker on a link wher the small cylinder is and keep tightenig untill it pops out. Measure the length you need and take the spare chain and put it on. Slide the masterlink parts through and connect the chain together. If it isn't the right length then you may need to repeat measure and put on some more spare chain or take som off.

Shortening: Put the chain on the front and rear sprocket and pull the tire back till it fits where it should with the rear brakes. Take the chain an pull the slack up onto the sprocket until it is tight. The chain part that is hanging over is the stuff you need to remove. Do so and put the masterlink there if there isn't already one. Than pull back the tire till the slack in the chain is zero and see if thats where the tire fits nicely in between the brakes. If not add on/take off some links and repeat.

I noticed there wasn't a section for doing this when I desparately needed it today so after work I decided that the rest of the BMXing community might need it too. Feel free to add anything that I missed out on. Sorry though for not gettin gpictures though, I will next time I either clean the bike again or put another srpocket on.

  09 Sep 2008 10:51 pm, [How-To] Toboggan

This trick is a medium level trick. The hardest part of this trick is to really commit to the trick and just throw your hand and ass back

  1. Approach a flyout type jump. (best to learn it on flyouts first so you don't completely destroy yourself)
  2. As you approach your desired obstacle learn back during the takeoff.
  3. As soon as you leave the coping, throw your hand towards your seat and tuck your ass up.
  4. Make sure to get the bars as straight as possible otherwise it will just be a seatgrab.
  5. Hold the trick for a little so you get used to the balance needed during the trick.
  6. Once you perfect the trick on a flyout move towards a hip or a spine.
  7. Make sure to be on your game because this trick really hurts if you fall.
  8. Also, during the trick make sure to tuck the bike up so you get maximum steez.
  9. Now you know toboggans.

*Disclaimer:Make sure to know ow to do one handers and seatgrabs before learning this trick. If you get hurt trying this trick, the author ZDN, is in no way responsible.

Result:If you follow these steps and perform them right you will look like this.

  01 Sep 2008 2:49 pm, First-Aid basics

I saw the injury prevention thread but what happens if you manage to get hurt anyway?

Hopefully this thread will explain what to do when that unfortunate incident does happen. The pictures will show a certain area but the same basic concept applies to anywhere else. I am first-aid certified and have personally administered first-aid to some of these injuries (some even to myself) and the doctors have never had an issue with my practices and some have even complimented me on them.

This is your basic first-aid kit. You should always have plenty of gauze, disinfectant wipes or H2O2, bandage wraps, triangle bandage wrap, medical tape, band-aids, scissors, antihistamine medication for allergies such as a bee sting, and rubber gloves.

07 Aug 2008 2:45 pm, [How To] 360 on flat.

These are tricky. It took me a really long time to get them clean, but now that I can do them they're one of my favorite tricks. I've got some videos of them now but I don't have editing software so I couldn't put them in slow motion or crop them or anything. Sorry about cutting my head off in the screen shots.

1. You want to be going at a medium speed not too fast or you might die and not too slow because it makes the spin harder.

2. Here is a major key to doing spins on flat, you need to start carving and when you carve lean into your spin. It fees weird but it works. You want to carve and lean and turn with your body until your body has almost done a 90 without your bike leaving the ground.

Wallrides, probably one of the funnest tricks out there. I can do wallrides all day just cause their so fun.

How To:
A. The easiest way to wallride if ur just starting them, is off a bank, like the picture above.^
B. Some people tend to ride along side the wall, then hop and do a tabel-top, you can do it that way, but its harder and you wont get as far.
C: To get on the wall,u want to go ... mehr lesen
