[Review] SNAFU Swinger Bars
   by babelfish42 | 14 Mar 2006 12:51 pm

Specifications
  • 100% 4130 chromoly
  • 25.35 inches wide
  • 7.25 inches rise
  • 8.5 degrees of backsweep
  • 5 degrees of upsweep
  • 2.3 pounds/1038 grams in weight
I've had these bars for about 3 months now, and they have met and exceeded my expectations. The backsweep and upsweep are not excessive, and feel pleasant in the hand, giving just the right amount of control. They have not shown any signs of bending, cracking or similar faults. The 7.25 inch rise, although slightly below the average 7.5 inch rise I've seen in most other bars, is excellent, I felt as if I had 6 inches more "pop" when I first hopped with them.
All in all, these bars have no real faults, apart from the fact that they are made by SNAFU, who are perceived as being an inferior parts company by some snobbish riders. The fact is, they make strong, high quality bars at a price that may appeal to those unwilling/unable to fork out £50 for a set of handlebars by a so-called "better" company.

Summary

  • Reasonably light
  • Strong
  • Appealing graphics
  • Cheap, ideal for the rider on a budget
  • Well proportioned
  • Wide enough to cut perhaps a half inch off each side
Rating

I would give these bars 9/10, as they have performed admirably up to this point, and I can foresee them doing so in the future.

Costs: from £17-£30 dependent on store and current special offers
