ODYSSEY Jim Cielecki Pedals (looseball)
   by nutsgeezer | 20 Jul 2005 12:02 am

I bought these pedals at the start of this year after destroying my southgate pedals in a couple of months. The Southgates being of poor quality made me slightly reluctant to get another odyssey pedal, but they looked so good! and the fact that they are designed by Jim C reassured me.

When I bought them they had only been out about a month, and everywhere was sold out. This meant when my local bike shop finally got them in, I had to settle with them in 'tan' rather than black as Id requested. The cost was around £27.

Anyway, the quality of these pedals is really high. They have a really grippy surface, yet they arent huges like other pedals on the market (tenderisers etc). They have a unique pin system (the pins are screws which are put in with an alan key through the opposite side of the pedal) which as well as being very grippy, made it easy for me to make and attach a grind plate. Although there were spare pins provided (and I havent lost any so far) normal screws from a hardware store would fit, so in theory you'll always be able to replace the pins (they sell replacement pins but in a few years they may stop). Unlike most pedals, the pins came in and out really easily and didnt take much effort.

The pedal itself is quite lightweight considering its size, so if you're weight concious but still want quality these are the pedals for you. They have plastic caps on the end to protect the axles which still haven't come off. I have them in looseball but they still spin perfectly without making a crunchy sound.

Overall I would say these pedals are the best on the market bar none. They grip well, last long, weigh hardly anything and dont break the bank. I give them 10 out of 10 and I would recommend these to everyone.

Here's what they look like after about 10 months riding:

Cost: about $28 USD
