[Review] Primo Alloy Barends
   by turndown/dean stacy | 14 Apr 2006 9:16 am

I picked these barends up last spring, and ran them from about March to June. I got them because they looked cool and I guess thats about it. They were about $13, wich is about in the middle of the barend price range, and use a double wedge design, different from about all barends.

The double wedge design is alot simpler than the traditional wedge design in the ways that it goes in alot easier and comes out alot easier. But if you are not too lazy to go install barends, then you probably dont care if you take 4 extra seconds to hit in the traditional kind if they dont go in straight. (those rubber bands dont stay on the barend when you put it in)

My only complaint swith these, and one being the only reason I stopped using them, was because while riding I was messing around and ghost rode my bike into a trash can, my bike fell over (not very hard at all) and one of the caps off the end broke off. basically the internal part of the barend was working and still tight on the inside of the bar, but the circle that covers the end of the bar and says "primo" broke off. I was certainly suprised since I didnt think I was very hard on barends at the time, and had only had them a few months.

And of course the problem could be easily fixed by putting some washers on the bolt, but then the head of the bolt would stick out. I ended up just giving the pair to my friend and he put washers on the broke one and I got new barends.

My other complaint was after about a month and a half of riding, the ends of them were completely scratched up, making the barends look silver. I certainly did not think that shouldve happened that fast, but it did so whatever.

Pros:
+ look good
+ comes in 2 colors (silver or black)
+ simple and easy design

Cons:
- seemed to have broke rather easy
- scratched easy

I give these a 7/10, with 2 points off for the fact that they broke, and 1 for how easy they scratched.

Even though I love that design, I would probably never buy them again since they broke, and try other ones. You may like them if you for some reason take barends out alot or don't bail alot.

Costs: about $13 USD
