[Review] Profile Blade Sprocket
   by Michael Hardman | 09 Jun 2006 8:12 am

Ok so after running countless Profile Imperial sprockets because I was too tight fisted to spend more than £30 on a sprocket I had enough of the constantly bending and twisting them, My next move was to opt for yet another Profile product purely based upon the looks and the material it was made from.

The Profile Blade sprocket is made form 7075 aluminium just like the 'legendary' Tree sprocket but it’s about £5 cheaper.  So far I have nothing but praise for the sprocket it has recently had to put up with me sprocket stalling and grinding due to loosing my pegs and it’s handled everything very well.  No sprocket is bombproof, I don't care what you say, aluminium whatever compound or mixture it is, is no match for a solid lump of reinforced concrete and you should expect to see some damage to the sprocket.  So far this damage has been minimal, yes my sprockets bent a bit but no where near as much as my previous Profile Imperial sprockets and this one has taken a hell of a lot more in terms of abuse than all my previous sprockets put together. Weight whores will be pleased this one is an extremely light piece of kit that has put up with a lot of abuse and I'm pleasantly pleased and surprised  at how well the sprocket has held up after three months of use.  It is also pretty cheap at £45 when compared to the other 7075 sprockets out there.

Specs

  • The new street/park sprocket from Profile. If the Imperial aint tuff enuff for ya than you ought to be checkin' this out.
  • 3/16 inch thick, 7075 aluminium for strength.
  • 1/8 Teeth (not compatible with narrow 3/32 race chains).
  • Available in Polished or Black
  • 25, 28 or 30T

Summary

No matter what anyone says nothing is indestructible and sprockets are one of those bike bits that have to put up with a lot of intentional and unintentional abuse.  The Profile Blade sprocket is a good buy if your looking for something cheaper and other than a Tree sprocket and it looks better in my opinion, more unique in design.

Rating

8/10 - Nothing lasts forever and this sure as hell wont but it will last a pretty darn long time and that is good enough for me and should be for every body else.

Costs: about £45
