[Review] Profile Mini SS Ti Hubset
   by Michael Hardman | 23 Jul 2006 4:56 pm

Its that time of year for me to review something again.  I wanted to reviewthese straight away but I knew I couldnt, Ive given them a good monthand a half now of aggressive riding (by my standards).

Ok well just to make things clear I am reviewing the Profile Mini SS Ti Hubset.  This includes
  • A Gold 36 hole Rear Mini SS Cassette hub with 14mm ti axles and nuts and 9tooth ti driver.
  • A Gold  36 hole Front Mini SS hub with 14mm ti axles and nuts.
I bought this hubset becasue I wanted gold Profile hubs so straight away I had limited my choice of hubs that I could buy.  In the end a dealer I knew i nthe UK hooked me up with this hubset for the price it would cost over in the US so I wasnt complaining.

My first impressions were base don Profiles reputation and I was imediatly in love with the things, the colour, the weight the craftmenship was top notch.  It took me a week to finally get round to having all the stuff to build the wheels but once they were done I was off riding my bike into the sunset.

Now after some prelonged usage the hubs have come into their own, they are firstly very very noisy just how I like my hubs the engagement is great, you notice it over other hubs (well I did as I have a background in biketrials)  I was expecting the hub to skip a bit when I first started riding it, due to the pawls and ratchet having to bed in but no there was none of this.  The hub has never skipped on me and it hasnt fallen apart of blown up in my face yet. My only gripe is that it doesnt spin as freely as some other hubs and the rolling resistance seems to be more.  One day Ill get round to taking the hub apart and putting some thinner grease/lube in but I really cant see that day coming very soon.

Overral this is the best hub Ive ever had and thats coming from using an Oddessey Cassette hub.  Initailly the cost may put peop[le off but I strongly recommend this hub as it will soon start to pay for itself.  You pay for quality and in this case you certainly get it.

8.5/10
