[Review] Shadow Rant Cassette Hub
   by scerbz | 20 Nov 2006 1:25 pm

Well, after having broke 2 wtp pi cassettes i decided that i needed to get something else. so about late march/early april, i talked with the local park/shop owner mark. he let me trade in my wtp cassette for the options on another one, primo mix, demolition anorexia. well, i talked with him saying how i dont want another, the demolition has been known to break, and the primo one had just come out. i talked with how i really liked the shadow one. so after a bit of phone calls on his part, he arranged to get me the shadow cassette in replacement of the wtp one. anyways, i laced it up and was riding that night it came in. and it was wonderful. it was soooo smooth, and perfect. the driver is intense. the pawls are super nice, i hope you can almost see them in this pic:

fastforward to now. its still running like its brand new, the only thing thats happened with it, is its dirty. the spokes have yet to dent the flanges like all hubs ive had ever. its still super smooth, no skipping ever. never has come loose. ive run pegs and pegless on it. it holds up either way. as with running pegless though, and doing grinds, i got the ends of the axles a bit, but i took care of that after noticing what i was doing by doubling up axle nuts. i got the 10t driver, and the double wide bearing, instead of 2, is holding up excellently as well. i had a problem with my ody hub where id end up stripping out the locknuts that held the driver into place, this nothing has moved, i only tightened it finger tight. the nuts supplied hold tight as well. with my ody they let the wheel shift if you hit one side too hard, or cased, or landed wrong. the wtp's came loose, so you had to watch it alot. may help explain my my last frame's rear triangle got really bent. but with the condition of this hub still being basically perfect, with how i abuse my stuff, im really more than satisfied. the 130$ for this hub is most definetally worth it. i dont like to rate things high, i like to give things a chance when new, and this was most definetally the best part ive given a chance to. i give this a 10/10.
