HOFFMAN Super Stem
   by nutsgeezer | 26 Jul 2005 5:39 pm

I've had this stem for as long as I can remember (well, not that long but I've had it ages). It cost me £20, and it still costs £20. Most stems cost £50-60 so this is a bargain. The stem has a 51mm reach and is slightly heavier than most stems at 14.4oz. If you wanted to save weight I have no doubt that you could drill it out in places without losing strength. Otherwise you could get its lighter brother, the spreader stem. It grips the bars, and forks brilliantly - I can't remember a time when its ever slipped, even on heavy bails. The best thing about this stem is that you can flip it over if you want lower bars, and the other side has the engraved hoffman logo so it still looks good. The bolts don't rust like some stem bolts do, which is another bonus. It comes in black (which I have), or chrome.

Specs:
51mm reach
14.4oz

Pros
+ Cheap
+ Excellent grip
+ Easy to adjust
+ 2 different bar heights
+ Tough paintwork (doesn't chip as easily as most)

Cons
- Heavy

Costs: 20GBP
