[Review] Fit Series 3 Stem
   by kong | 12 Feb 2007 4:45 pm

So i've been using a chock full o nuts stem for the last year and a half since my old top loader striped out. I came up on some skrill and wanted to get a new top loading stem. I saw this one for cheap and was also drawn in my the weight savings. Uh mistake!

I swapped out the old CFON and put this suka on. I then went for a mellow ride around the block and hopped some curbs. Well last night i went out and rode a parking lot, after a couple of 180's and bank boosts my bars where slipping like a women giving birth. I cut the session short went home and cleaned my bars and stem with alcohol and torked down on the bolts like an ape. Hoping that i fixed the problem i rolled back out into the night. A couple of curb hops and bump to wall taps and the bastards moved again. I put the CFON back on today and the Series 3 is going in the sell pile.

Let's put this in perspective, i'm sure this neck would be fine for a smooth rider who weights 180lbs and has a lite bike, that's not me. I weight in at 225lbs, 6'1, my bike is 30-31lbs and i only ride street. I don't think there is enough contact space on the bars for this stem to take the impact with out slipping.

Overall this is a really nice stem it looks cool is machined nicely and is very light. I just can't use a stem that slipps, i don't have dental insurance.
