[Review] Animal Hamilton Pedals
   by turndown | 21 Feb 2007 11:07 pm

Well, to start this off, I had been running the same pedals for about a year. some crappy wellgo on the right missing almost all of its pins, and a JC I bought off some guy for 5 bucks on the left. I saw an opportunity to grab a pair of Hamiltons for 20 bucks, like new. I had known they came in cool colors, but the ones the guy had were black, and they matched my bike better anyways.

I got them and they were super nice. They had a knurled platform which was good for grip even without pins, they also come with 2 sizes of pins for both pedals, so tons of extra pins. (PLUS the allen key's that fit both sizes of pins, in case you didnt have them, or needed new ones.) If you are like me and dont care about the length, it just means a buttload of extra ones, free! Plus if you dont like the 2mm pins that thread into the top of the pedal like Wellgos (Im not a huge fan) you can run the pins that thread in from the middle, like in JC's. All the pins were already installed when I got them, so I let them be. I will say, I have been super suprised that i havent lost more than maybe 3 pins, and I have had these pedals about 3 months. The guy who had them before me had one side alll really small pins for pedal grinds, but I have noticed it doesnt matter what side Im on, or how long the pins, they all seem to have super grip on either my Vans XL3's or my Etnies Roscoe's. (I rode my Loteks on them once, wasnt a super fan, but long pins probably wouldve helped.)

Another thing I feel like I should mention, is that when I bail, it is usually very easy to one foot, me still connected to my bike, or its a really hard bail, and i sacrifice my bike before I get hurt. These pedals have taken 8ft drops to flat and numerous harsh bails and havent bent or snapped or anything.

To sum it up:
Pros: strong, cool colors, lots of extra pins, comes with allen keys, grippy.
Cons: cant think of any.

Price: Around $30 USD
