[Review] Odyssey Hazard Lite Rim
   by turndown | 20 Apr 2007 6:51 pm

I am writing this review for the last 3 hazard lites I had. The first one, the chrome flaked on the wheel and i broke at least 14 spokes and rode it until I could feel the wheel flex underneath me, and the rim stayed straight and didnt bend or anything. The second one, on a different wheel, was chrome, ran brakes, and they seemed to work fine for the 2 months I had brakes on, then I got the flaking rim warrantied and got a black rim, and relaced it to my Odyssey cassette. So far with my lacing job, and 3x lacing, this rim has been as amazing as the last two.

Here are some pics of mine:

So far these rims have taken harsh bails, drops to flat, numerous sideways landings from 180s, and the occasional me throwing my bike, and I dont have one complaint yet. I did not run my black rim with brakes. But the anodizing seems pretty tough from what I can tell.

These rims weigh in at 17 oz, which is one the lightest of all the Odyssey rims and on the lighter end of the bmx rim spectrum. I will say that the strength to weight ratio of these rims in my experience is great, and I may never run a different back rim. Im decently smooth and only weight 135 lbs, but this rim still seems stronger than what I need, but I wont complain because its not like its heavy.

Official Specs:
-Welded seam and inclined spoke holes for increased strength.
-17.7 oz
-48 or 36 hole versions available.
-Black and chrome versions available, limited runs of powdercoated colors available when in stock.

Pros: -strong, comes in multiple colors (at least in limited runs), chrome seemed to stop good, light, by odyssey so amazing warranty department.

Cons: -I couldnt think of one.

Summary: Pick this rim up if you want a really nice strong rim, and you arent super heavy or some kind of wildman who needs triple walls.

Rating: 10/10

Cost: About $66 USD
