[Review] Fly Ruben Pedals
   by glaiduss | 29 Jun 2007 5:42 pm

Well here is my first go at a review.

I have had these pedals for about 4 months now, and are still holding strong.

These have been the best pedals I have ever owned. They are one of the lightest pedals, they come in at 440g. I have hammered these pedals, and the axles are strong and have yet to bend, and the body has yet to crack or chip from grinding. They are quite a large pedal, providing alot of grip which makes it hard to move your foot.

But these pedals are perfect if you are a pegless rider. The pins have been placed so there are none in the middle of the pedal, this allows you to grind coping with pins on the pedal, and the coping slide right in the middle of the pedal on the body. Even if you remove all the pins they slide well on all types of benches, and dont break from grinding.

The bearings are not that good in these pedals, after a while they died, but it doesnt matter because they still spin..They are also a kind of thinish pedal, which feels alot better to ride (don't know why).

The pin system is a bit of a pain, as the ones that screw out from underneath the pedal come loose very easily from stalls and just general pressure on the pins, so you will find you will have to be tightening pins quite often. They also have the allen key head on the axle so if your pedal comes loose you can just use an allen key. But I have fround these pedals come loose quite a bit, and need to be tightened every few rides.

They come an a great range of colours, although I think the blue looks crap, they should paint them a better blue(they look different in real life then the picture above)

I will ride these pedals untill they die.

Pros:
Light
Strong
Grippy
Thin
Grind well with pins
Alot of colours
Wide

Cons:
Expensive ($120 AUS)
Pedals come loose
Pins come loose after every few rides
Bearings die quickly

Although this pedal has its cons, I can put up with them as the pros far outweigh the cons.Ill give the pedals 9/10, they are expensive but you get what you pay for, quality.
