[review] KHE reverse
   by jakallen1990 | 12 Jan 2008 7:12 pm

Ok, I got my freecoaster about 6 months ago and so far ... its great!
firstly I'm in no way saying freecoasters are better (in fact I'd like more than anything an all titanium profile mini cassette but with no money... yer haha) but in the time I have had my freecoaster I’ve been very impressed.

If you aren’t sure exactly what a freecoaster does its quite simple; it allows you to fakie without the cranks having to revolve backwards! Which, as I’m sure you can imagine, opens up an all new look on fakie-ing.

Having said all of this the khe isn't perfect.. in fact its far from it like most freecoasters. I must admit I have got into the annoying habit (even on a cassette) of flipping my cranks backwards before fakie-ing I got into this habit from having to disengage my khe. Although you can just hop or outweigh the front pedal it sometimes doesn’t work and when I’m about to fakie pretty quick I don’t want to leave it unknown if the coaster will disengage or not!

Another point is everyone seems to be getting one! It used to be 'wow that guys got a freecoaster'... not any more, and it needs to be kept greased and well maintained!!!!!

But the biggest thing people notice when they have a go is the gap or pickup! It isn’t like a cassette where you pedal and have instant drive it (for me) takes about a 1/4 of a crank turn to start effecting the drive, in a way its funny because you see people keep nearly falling off as they’re not used to it but at the end of the day its your bike... on the other hand this can be adjusted by adding and taking out spacers from the hubs internals, but the smaller the gap the harder to disengage!

Despite all of this I think its great! I have managed to get used to all its 'flaws' and now I couldn’t live without them.

PROS
1. its a freecoaster!!
2. it comes in black and white and is coming out in red and green which looks sick!!!
3. it comes in left and right hand drive
4. microdrive
5. strongest freecoaster yet designed by Bruce Crisman!

CONS
1. the dreaded gap
2. it has quite big flanges and is a little ugly in my opinion
3. its pretty heavy!
4. I guess u could say its cheating
5. everyone has one!!!
6. pretty high maintenance!!

ok so all in all it has its faults but no worse than any other freecoaster and despite having allot of mates going wrong!! mines fine so I cant put it down!

rating 7/10
