[Review] Dia-Compe Hombre Brake
   by Sean13 | 13 Feb 2008 3:54 am

This is by far one of the most underrated BMX parts on the market. The belief that you need a Fly, Demolition Vulcan or a Revenge industries brake, to have an amazing brake set up can be argued, but only for the fact that they are made from CNC’d aluminium and have bearings in the pivots. That’s it. I’ve had this brake for 4 months now, after a friend of mine had given it to me as he had replaced it with a £55 Fly brake, saying that it didn’t work, and that it was hard to set up. He couldn’t of been more wrong. Off came the now tired looking odyssey evolver, and on went the Dia-Compe Hombre. By far the easiest set up of a brake I have ever done, due to its simple design, and lack of unnecessary parts. The only down fall and fault I could find with this brake was the brake pads that it is supplied with. They are quite a hard compound, and would defiantly mark painted rims and wear out the chrome surface on chrome rims. I’m running it with a set of kool stop eagle 2 pads, and it stops on a dime, and is incredibly easy to fine tune to each riders preference.

Pros:

Dia-Compe's brand new U-brake made to answer the stiffer brakes like the Odyssey Evolver.
Uses Cantilever style brake pads.
Hombre kit (alloy caps and soft green pads) already installed.
Universal so fits Front or Rear.
Can be used with single or dual cable routing.
Straddle cable, bridge, Allen bolts and 2 cable tidies included.
Really reasonably priced at £14.99
comes in a variety of colours, pink, purple, white and black

Cons:
Springs are exposed, like with many new style brakes, so collect dirt and crap really easy.
Supplied brake pads are a very hard compound, so will wear out painted rims quickly.

Over all: 9/10
