[How To] 360 on flat.
   by billytalentisshweet | 07 Aug 2008 2:45 pm

These are tricky. It took me a really long time to get them clean, but now that I can do them they're one of my favorite tricks. I've got some videos of them now but I don't have editing software so I couldn't put them in slow motion or crop them or anything. Sorry about cutting my head off in the screen shots.

1. You want to be going at a medium speed not too fast or you might die and not too slow because it makes the spin harder.

2. Here is a major key to doing spins on flat, you need to start carving and when you carve lean into your spin. It fees weird but it works. You want to carve and lean and turn with your body until your body has almost done a 90 without your bike leaving the ground.

3. Now you want to hop. This is another thing that feels weird that you'll have to get used to it. Now that your body has started your spin (your weight will carry your bike through the spin behind you). Some people say it kinda feels like your looping out when you hop and that helped my friend Sky to do them, but didn't help me.

4. Keep your bodies rotation going, snap through the 360 with your body before your bike does, use your strength and weight to pull it behind you. EDIT: Spin and keep the bike under you the whole time, that's just how it feels.

5. Pull the back end up a bit so your slightly tucked. I usually do this at like 270 (or so it feels) it makes it a little harder but looks and feels way better.

6. Feel your landing and roll away. Apparently I close my eyes when I do these... Not sure how that works.

Other suggestions are:

"What i found out is that you need to focus more on the hop than the spin because otherwise the spin would get very cramped."
-DutchBmxer

"each time you do them try to carve less and less."
- BMX BMX BMX

"As you hop and begin your spin, look over your shoulder in the direction your going to spin, and STAY looking over. It just allows the body to keep its momentum.
I was given that pointer years ago, and has helped me."

- Sterns

Here are some problems people have said that they've had:

"I can come close to landing a full 360, but 9/10 of the time I end up slipping off of my bike which almost ended up me doing a 360 tailwhip. The bummer part was I landed side-sadle and fell forward. Any suggestions here?"

Maybe try and keep the bike under you more? I'm not really too sure how to solve that.

A few people had problems where they would still pivot on their back tires. It's possible that you aren't carving enough, but it will help if you learn forwards more. It feels really awkward and you some times land on your front wheel (I've gone OTB) but that's just how you learn the proper balance.

Hope this helps,

Jeff
