[Review]Proper Magnalite V3 cassette
   by ben | 26 Aug 2008 2:52 pm

So my old proper cassette hub eventually died and I decided I would treat myself to a new hub. I looked at the obvious, profiles, primo mix etc but seemed like they were just inferior to the proper. The proper comes with the fancy ceramic bushings, hence no more blown drivers, a hollow lightweight (yet sturdy) 14mm axle and super low flange which looks great.

So I decide to order it from crucial bmx, comes the next day and I lace it upto a primo balance and get riding. All I can say is wow. It was actually noticeably lighter than its predecessor, louder (for those who like that) and just looked amazing. Haven't had one problem with it since. The only reason it was recently replaced is because it doesn't coast backwards

Specs:
• Super low flange design.
• No driver bearing to fail - this uses a ceramic bush.
• Sealed axle bearings.
• Hollow 14mm axle with allen key inset on one end for easy maintenance.
• Black, White, Red, Blue, Purple or Gold
• Rhd and LHD
• 36 hole only.
• Just 396g.
• Arguably the best cassette hub on the market today.
RRP:£89.99

My Bike with a LHD 9t laced to a balance:
(proof it holds up to pegs both sides aswell)

Pros:
-Very lightweight
-Driver will never blow
-Lots of nice colours
-Very cheap compared to similar hubs
-Good engagement
-Looks amazing

Cons:
-Different spoke lengths for each flange so more spoke cost
-Annoying if you like silent hubs

Overall I would strongly recommend this cassette to anyone, from trails to street to park. No problems and the customer service at proper is amazing (compared to others *cough abikeco*)

9.5/10
